MEP Demands Answers on Eurostar Future

South East MEP Sharon Bowles has written to the Management of Eurostar asking for details of their plans for Ashford International.
Eurostar recently issued a statement launching their plans for a new international "hub" station at Ebbsfleet. They simultaneously admitted they would be slashing services to Ashford. Worryingly, staff at the station have now suggested this is the start of a plan to stop all Eurostar services to Ashford.
Sharon Bowles has written to Eurostar explaining the importance of the service to the regeneration of Kent, and asking for a definitive statement as to their future plans.
Sharon Bowles said "Ashford is a vibrant town that has grown enormously in size in the last few years. Part of this growth and development has come about because Ashford was becoming an international "hub" for Eurostar."
"If Eurostar stops servicing Ashford, the feet will be cut out from under a really superb scheme of regeneration and enterprise. Surrounding communities like Folkestone, Maidstone, Canterbury and Hastings may suffer too, as the drive for regeneration in Kent may be lost. "
"Eurostar must now be upfront with Kent residents about its plans for our area. I will keep local residents updated with any new information I obtain."
