Sharon Bowles MEP, who represents Oxfordshire at the European Parliament, is supporting the Government's plan, announced today, to set up a new 'enterprise zone' in the Science Vale UK area of Oxfordshire.
Bringing together key players, Science Vale UK is already one of the most successful science hotspots in the country, with 13 percent of research and development employment in the South East and four percent in England.
The Government's plan will see Science Vale UK turned into an 'enterprise zone' which will benefit from 'looser planning controls, superfast broadband, capital allowances, and £150m of tax breaks.'
Sharon Bowles MEP said:
"As a former science graduate and patent attorney, I hope that new businesses in the field of science, technology, and research and development, will capitalise on this opportunity to set up shop in the new Science Vale UK 'enterprise zone'.
"Science Vale UK is already a world-renowned hub of cutting-edge research and development and the additional 8,000 new jobs which will be created as a result of being named an 'enterprise zone' will allow the area to build on its success.
"There have been cuts to the sciences in recent years, with the teaching of pure science subjects at universities a conspicuous casualty, and so I very much welcome the news that there will be investment in the sciences, particularly in the field of research and development."
