What Sharon Did Last Week (21st - 25th November 2011)

Monday

Sharon caught her usual 08:30 Eurostar to Brussels. Upon arriving at the Parliament,Sharon met with her staff to discuss her agenda for the Committee week.

At 15:00, Sharon met with the Sander Schol, Director of Rates and Government Bonds for the Association for Financial Markets in Europe (AFME), and Steven Major, a Chair of the AFME Common Issuance working group, to discuss Eurobonds.

At 16:00, Sharon met with Alexander Italianer, Director-General of Competition in the European Commission to discuss current issues in competition policy, and the working relationship between the Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee and DG COMP.

At 17:00, Sharon chaired a Transatlantic Legislative Dialogue Steering Committee meeting which was attended by the European Commissioner for Trade, Karel De Gucht, and the US Ambassador to the European Union, William Kennard.

After, at 18:00, Sharon made her way to an event on Country-by-Country Reporting, that she was sponsoring, to give the opening remarks. After the event, Sharon had dinner with Douglas Flint, Group Chairman, and Iain Mackay, Finance Director, of HSBC.

Tuesday

Sharon came into the office at 08:00 for a meeting with her assistant Siobhan on European system of national and regional accounts in the European Union of 2010 (ESA 2010). After, at 09:00, Sharon chaired an exchange of views with Commissioner Alumina (Competition) in the ECON Committee. Also discussed was Omnibus II.

At 13:00, Sharon met with Alex Barker from the Financial Times to discuss the future of the Euro. Immediately after this, Sharon met with Carlo Casini, the Chair of the Constitutional Affairs Committee to discuss competency issues.

At 14:45, Sharon returned to Chair the second session of ECON, an exchange of views with Commissioner Barnier (Internal Market). During this session,Sharon met with Brendan Dignam from the ECON secretariat to discuss the upcoming Asia delegation. After the session closed, Sharon rushed to the BBC studios in Brussels for an interview on Eurobonds.

Wednesday

At 10:30, Sharon met with the Deputy Director of the European Central Bank to discuss ESA 2010. After this, at 10:30, Sharon attended an informal meeting with the Commission services on the draft delegated acts of the Prospectus Directive. Following this, Sharon met with Adolfo Barberá del Rosal, head of the ECON Secretariat.

At 12:00, Sharon met with members of the Danish Presidency team in her office to discuss statistics. Following the conclusion of this meeting, Sharon met with Tim Aron and Jonathan Herbst, from Norton Rose, to discuss the Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (MiFID).

At 14:50, Joe Ackermann and Ansgar Tietmeyer from Deutsche Bank collected Sharon from her office to take her to a Deutsche Bank Roundtable event which they asked her to host. Sharon spoke on recent developments in financial markets, as well as the Greek crisis.

At 16:00, Sharon chaired a hearing with Commissioners Rehn (Economic and Monetary Affairs) and Semeta (Taxation) in the ECON committee. After, Sharon took a car to Brussels Airport where she flew to Denmark for an ECON delegation ahead of the Danish Presidency of the European Union.

Thursday

At 08:30,Sharon met with Margrethe Vestager, Minister for Economic Affairs and the Interior. After, at 12:30, Sharon went to the Danish Parliament for a meeting with Ms. Eva Kjer Hansen, chair of the Danish European Affairs Committee.

After a brief lunch break,Sharon met with Danish trade unions before returning to the hotel. Here she met with the Danish Bankers Association and attended their dinner.

Friday

At 09:00, Sharon travelled to the Danish Ministry of Business and Growth for a meeting with Minister Ole Sohn. After, Sharon travelled to the Danish Ministry of Taxation for a meeting with its Minister, Thor Möger Pedersen. Following these meetings, Sharon travelled to the Danish national bank, Danmarks Nationalbank, to meet with governor by royal appointment, Chairman Mr. Nils Bernstein, and governor, Mr. Per Callesen.

After this, Sharon attended the delegation Press Conference before flying back to Heathrow.
