What Sharon Did Last Week (28th November - 2nd December 2011)
Monday
Sharon travelled into London, but instead of catching her normal 08:30 Eurostar, Sharon attended the CoCo Bonds and Capital Innovation Conference hosted by Terrapin at the Royal Garden Hotel in Kensington. Sharon gave a keynote speech, 'Taming the GSIFIs (global systemically important financial institutions): What role should CoCos, hybrids and bail-in instruments play in global finance?'
Sharon caught the Eurostar after her speech at 11:00. Arriving in Brussels, Sharon made her way straight to her office to prepare for upcoming trialogues on EMIR. At 16:00, Sharon attended a European Parliament prep meeting on EMIR, before the trialogue began at 16:30.
Tuesday
At 08:30, Sharon attended an ALDE prep meeting ahead of the morning's session of the ECON Committee. After, at 09:00, Sharon chaired the session of ECON. Topics which came before the Committee were: corporate governance framework for European companies, Common Consolidated Corporate Tax Base (CCCTB), and the issuance of euro coins.
At 11:30, Sharon went to a Shadows' meeting ahead of Wednesday's trialogue on the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA), but had to leave at 12:00 to meet with and talk to a visitors group to the Parliament, organised by her staff.
At 13:30, Sharon took a car to the European Council ahead of an exchange of views with ECOFIN. As Chair, Sharon led the ECON Committee's delegation. The meeting focused on crisis management and further steps in economic governance.
At 15:30, Sharon met with Robert Druskin, the CEO of the Depository Trust and Clearing Corporation (DTCC) in her office to discuss the Eurozone debt crisis in terms of what Trade Repositories can do in the future to help with the recovery. Also in attendance were Larry Thomspon, chief legal counsel of DTCC, Dan Cohen, head of global government relations, and Andrew Douglas, head of government relations Europe.
At 16:15, Sharon attended an open coordinators meeting to discuss options for Eurobonds. After this, Sharon made her way to an ECON coordinators meeting.
At 20:00, Sharon co-hosted a dinner with the Investment Management Association (IMA). The IMA was represented by its Chief Executive, Richard Saunders, and the topic of discussion was the MiFID II review.
Wednesday
At 08:30, Sharon attended a meeting of the Liberal Democrat European Parliamentary party (LDEPP) where the mini-plenary voting agenda, taking place on Thursday, was discussed. At 09:30, Sharon returned to her office to work her way through amendments to the corporate governance package from the Legal Affairs Committee (JURI).
At 10:30, Sharon attended an ALDE Group meeting to discuss Thursday's voting agenda. Following its conclusion, Sharon returned to her office to meet with Ian Livingstone, The CEO of BT, to discuss EU pension policy and issues surrounding growth, innovation and the digital agenda.
At 13:00, Sharon attended a trialogue on the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA). After, at 15:00, Sharon spoke in the plenary session of the European Parliament.
At 16:30, Sharon returned to her office to take a telephone call from Mario Draghi, the President of the European Central Bank. After, at 17:00, Sharon discussed CRD IV with her assistant Constance.
At 19:00, Sharon attended a dinner with fellow Liberal Democrat MEPs to discuss the Eurozone crisis.
Thursday
Sharon made her way into the Parliament at 08:00 for a shadows' meeting ahead of the days trialogues on Deposit Guarantee Schemes (DGS). The first trialogue took place at 09:00, and this was followed at 11:00 by a DGS Technical trialogue.
At 12:00, Sharon attended the mini-plenary session of the European Parliament for voting.
After, at 14:30, Sharon took the Eurostar back to London where she was collected by a car to be taken to Stoke Park to give the keynote speech at the Mortgage Masters Conference.
Friday
At 07:30, Sharon travelled to Heathrow to fly to Jacksonville in Florida for Transatlantic Legislative Dialogue with American politicians and regulators about trade and capital requirements.
