What Sharon Did Last Week (5th - 11th March)
Monday
Sharon caught her usual Monday morning Eurostar train to Brussels.
At 12.45 Sharon had a half an hour phone call with Mark Hoban MP, Financial Secretary to the Treasury, for a regular catch-up.
From 2.30 to 4.30 Sharon attended the Brussels Tax Forum at the European Commission where she gave the opening key-note speech. See you her full speech here
Between 5 and 6pm Sharon met with Nikhil Rathi, of HM Treasury, in her office.
Tuesday
At 10am Sharon met with Gary Gensler, Chairman of Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), Jacqueline Mesa, Office of International Affairs at CFTC, and Susan Baker, US Treasury Representative for Europe, in her office regarding Derivatives reform and the Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (MiFID) and regulation (MiFIR).
From 11.15 to 11.45 Sharon attended a meeting with Klaus-Heiner Lehne, Chairman of the Committee for Legal Affairs (JURI) on the Accounting and Transparency files.
At 12.30 Sharon had an hour long LDEPP meeting.
From 2.30 to 3pm Sharon met with Dominic Hannigan, Chair of the Irish Parliamentary Committee on European Affairs, regarding Economic Governance.
At 3.30 Sharon had a half an hour phone conversation with John Berrigan, Director for Financial Stability, Economic and Financial Affairs in the European Commission.
Between 4 and 5pm Sharon wrote an article for Eurofi Annual Financial Conference.
At 5pm Sharon then attended an ALDE Group meeting until 6.30pm.
Wednesday
Sharon attended a morning ALDE group meeting from 9.30-12.30, she then had a half an hour meeting with Ed Webber, Lib Dem Special Advisor on European Affairs.
At 1.30 Sharon recorded an interview for the European Parliament ECON website introducing the work of the Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee and her role as chair, see the interview here
At 2.30 Sharon had a half an hour meeting in her office with Paul Sharma, Director of Prudential Policy at the Financial Services Authority (FSA).
From 3.15 to 3.45 Sharon met with Adolfo Barberá del Rosal, Head of the Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee (ECON) Secretariat.
At 4pm Sharon attended a Women's Liberal Democrat strategy meeting on Women in 2020 and anti-trafficking.
From 4.30 to 5pm Sharon had a discussion on European Market Infrastructure Regulation (EMIR) with her assistant Constance.
Then at 5pm Sharon met with Peter Norman, fellow of DTCC/CSFI on post-trade architecture to discuss EMIR (European Market Infrastructure Regulation) and CSDR (Central Securities Depositories Regulation).
Thursday
From 10 to 10.30 Sharon had a meeting with her assistants on the forthcoming plenary session in Strasbourg.
Then at 10.30 Sharon had an hour long meeting with Eurostat and shadow rapporteurs of the ESA 2010 (European system of national and regional accounts 2010) report, of which Sharon is rapporteur.
At 1pm Sharon caught the Eurostar back to London and then at 4.30 met with Xavier Rolet, Chief Executive of the London Stock Exchange to discuss MiFID.
Friday
At 1pm Sharon caught the train from London to Newcastle to attend the Liberal Democrat Spring conference.
Saturday & Sunday
Sharon attended the Liberal Democrat Conference in Gateshead returning home at 4pm on Sunday.
